[Problem]

Morro Bay Odder Club needed one clear home for its public story and the practical work around every cold water dip. Events, waivers, member details, donations, photos, merchandise, and beach check-in all needed to work together without making a community club feel corporate.

[Approach]

  • 01Rebuilt the public site around the club's real photography and existing sea otter mark, with the cold Pacific setting and community at the center.
  • 02Created a phone-first event flow where someone can choose a dip, reserve a place, and sign the waiver without needing an account.
  • 03Built separate installable surfaces for members, beach check-in, and club operations, so each person sees only the tools needed in that moment.
  • 04Brought the gallery, vlog, free membership, donations, and merchandise into the same owned platform while keeping the public experience simple.

[Outcome]

A finished client build at odderclub.org that carries the club's branding from first visit through beach check-in, with one connected system for events, waivers, members, donations, merchandise, photos, and day-to-day operations.

[What's actually built in]

Every Field Kit ships with the same real infrastructure — not a template site with a contact form bolted on. Each tile below is a live system in this build. In plain terms first, then the tech underneath.

Editable site + /admin dashboard

You edit copy, prices, hours, and photos yourself from a private dashboard.

Replaces: Squarespace / Wix / Webflow editor

Contact & inquiry form

Public form that routes to your inbox and into your admin inquiries queue.

Replaces: Typeform, Jotform

Newsletter signup

Double opt-in newsletter signup; subscriber list visible in your dashboard.

Replaces: Mailchimp / Substack signup widget

One short link for social media (/links)

One short, easy web address (yoursite.com/links) that you put in your Instagram, TikTok, or Facebook bio. It's a single tidy page holding every link you want people to tap — book, shop, menu, directions, newsletter. Like a tinyurl or Linktree, except it's yours, it's free, and you edit it yourself.

Replaces: Linktree, Beacons, bit.ly / tinyurl

Mobile-friendly + basic SEO

Responsive layout, meta tags, sitemap, and social-share images.

Replaces: Yoast, RankMath

Basic integrations & embeds

Connect the outside tools you already use — Google Calendar, Google Maps, YouTube/Vimeo embeds, Instagram feeds, Stripe, standard OAuth logins, and any service with a normal embed code or public API. Complex custom syncs are a separate add-on.

Replaces: Zapier lite, most embed / connect widgets

Branded PDF export template

Guides, invoices, and one-pagers export in your brand.

Replaces: Canva Pro exports

Client / partner login area (basic)

One protected page per client, guarded by login.

Replaces: Notion shared page, Basecamp lite

Bookings & Calendar (basic)

Services, availability rules, deposits, waivers, and Google Calendar sync — right in your dashboard.

Replaces: Calendly + Acuity

Team accounts + roles

Invite teammates and give them different permissions (admin, staff, viewer).

Replaces: Extra Notion / Basecamp seats

Basic analytics dashboard

Traffic, top pages, form submissions, and booking counts — visible in your admin.

Replaces: Fathom lite, GA basics

Content Library

Articles, recipes, and guides — plus optional gated files (PDFs, printables) delivered by email or after purchase.

Replaces: Substack Pro, Gumroad, WordPress + WooCommerce

Meetings & Task Hub

Meeting notes, meeting-linked documents, and optional AI-assisted task suggestions that you review before saving.

Replaces: Otter + Asana + Google Docs

Handoff Cost Sheet + Package Add-ons

Visible pricing, retainer/package system, client-package usage tracking.

Replaces: Manual pricing pages + spreadsheets

Custom Domain + Transactional Email

DKIM/SPF, sender setup, and templated transactional emails from you@yourdomain.

Replaces: Postmark / Resend + manual DNS

Installable phone app + push alerts

Your site installs to a phone home screen and works like an app, with push notifications you send from your dashboard.

Replaces: A separate native app build

Point-and-click site editor (featured)

Move, resize, and restyle things on your own pages by clicking them, without touching the dashboard forms. Featured in every Field Kit: you change your own site the moment you want to, no waiting on me.

Replaces: Webflow Editor, Elementor

Comparable custom-agency build: $8k–$25k+ upfront, $500–$2,000/mo ongoing, 8–20 weeks. Field Kit: shipped in weeks, one owner, no monthly SaaS tax. Sliding-scale Driftline rate available.

[Field Notes: the list]

A quiet note from the tideline, now and then.

New field guides, the occasional tour date, small-batch drops, and stray observations worth passing along. No noise. Unsubscribe anytime.

[Sponsor the Driftline rate]

Keep the sliding scale alive

The Driftline rate lets me work with low-income founders, disabled-led businesses, mutual-aid groups, and BIPOC/Indigenous/queer/trans-led teams at a deep discount — sometimes 40–60% off the listed range. If you've got the means and want to help more of those projects get built, a direct gift offsets the gap and keeps the studio solvent while I do it.
