[Problem]

The Social Queer is a Seattle-born, lesbian-founded community that needed a home of its own: a social platform for queer life beyond the feed, where people find irl events, connect with each other, and join as members without depending on a social media algorithm.

[Approach]

  • 01Built the public platform around the community's own voice and photos: irl events with a shared calendar, Classifieds, a catalog, Who We Are, and Where We Stand.
  • 02Created member accounts, the First 100 founding membership, and a shop, so joining and supporting the community happen in one owned place.
  • 03Gave the founders a private team space with meetings, mail, hosting tools, safety review, and a site editor, so they can run events and change the site themselves.
  • 04Made it installable as a phone app with branded link previews for sharing events.

[Outcome]

A finished client build live at thesocialqueer.com: a community platform and team workspace the founders run on their own.

[Sponsor the Driftline rate]

Keep the sliding scale alive

The Driftline rate lets me work with low-income founders, disabled-led businesses, mutual-aid groups, and BIPOC/Indigenous/queer/trans-led teams at a deep discount — sometimes 40–60% off the listed range. If you've got the means and want to help more of those projects get built, a direct gift offsets the gap and keeps the studio solvent while I do it.
