SMS Terms & Conditions

These terms cover Whale Watch text alerts sent by Brackish & Co. (Jules Marsh, Camano Island, WA). Last updated August 1, 2026.

The program

Whale Watch is a free, opt-in alert service. When a whale, orca, or other marine mammal is reported in the Salish Sea, subscribers get a short text with the species, the location, and the nearest shore viewpoint. Alerts come from (775) 535-7385.

How you opt in

You opt in by entering your mobile number in the sign-up form on the Whale Watch page and checking the box agreeing to receive text alerts. Nobody is added without doing that themselves — I never import, buy, or upload numbers.

Message frequency and cost

Message frequency varies with whale activity — typically a few messages per week during active season, and sometimes none for weeks. The service is free, but message and data rates may apply from your own mobile carrier.

Stopping alerts

Reply STOP to any message to cancel. You'll get one confirmation text and then nothing further. You can also use the "Stop my alerts" form on the Whale Watch page or the link in any email alert. Reply START to resubscribe.

Getting help

Reply HELP to any message, or email jules@brackishco.org.

Carriers and delivery

Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Delivery is not guaranteed, and alerts should never be your only source of safety or navigation information on the water.

Privacy

Your number is used for whale alerts and nothing else. It is never sold, rented, or shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing purposes. See the privacy policy for the full picture.

[Field Notes: the list]

A quiet note from the tideline, now and then.

New field guides, the occasional tour date, small-batch drops, and stray observations worth passing along. No noise. Unsubscribe anytime.

[Sponsor the Driftline rate]

Keep the sliding scale alive

The Driftline rate lets me work with low-income founders, disabled-led businesses, mutual-aid groups, and BIPOC/Indigenous/queer/trans-led teams at a deep discount — sometimes 40–60% off the listed range. If you've got the means and want to help more of those projects get built, a direct gift offsets the gap and keeps the studio solvent while I do it.
